BreakLine Education alum, Adedoyin Owoniyi, joined Confluent as a Consulting Engineer after graduating with an M.S. in IT.

Here is part of his story:

“I was born and raised in Nigeria, and I’m the youngest of four kids (my twin sister was born 6 minutes ahead of me!). During college, I buckled down on academics. It paid off: I got into a graduate program in IT at Georgia Southern in the US. A semester before I finished my M.S. degree, I had earned a 3.9 GPA. My sister-in-law then introduced me to BreakLine.

I immediately felt that I belonged. As an international student, it can be hard to find opportunities, even with a great track record. But, working with BreakLine, I interviewed with Michael Canzoneri and the team at Confluent. A week after my graduation, they offered me a position. I was blown away by the role and the compensation. Joining the team has been beautiful. It’s so diverse and interesting. Everybody is so smart and we help each other out. 

My parents are still in Nigeria. They are thrilled for me. And I’m thrilled too. Now that I am in tech, I can do so much more for them. BreakLine helped me understand how to show up, tell my story, and leave a lasting positive impression.

Oh, and one more good piece of advice from them: If you meet 60% of the requirements for a position, go for it!”
